Fox Run Vineyards Riesling Wins Gold in France
(Penn Yan, NY) Fox Run Vineyards takes home a Gold Medal at the Riesling Du Monde (Riesling in the World) Wine Competition held in Strasbourg, France. Fox Run Vineyards 2005 Riesling won Gold in the 'Generic' category. The competition featured over 500 Rieslings from 12 countries that were submitted to the jury panel.
Fox Run Vineyards owner Scott Osborn states "Out of the 71 Gold medals awarded, only one was given to a winery from the United States. We are extremely honored to be the only American winery to win Gold and excited to represent New York State and the Finger Lakes Region." Osborn added "Riesling has long been revered as the premier grape of the Finger Lakes and we are pleased that it is getting the recognition it deserves."
The Riesling Du Monde was created in 1998 and Rieslings are submitted from wine producing regions throughout the world to an international jury of oenologists and professional tasters. The variety of places where the wine is produced illustrates the diversity, richness and originality of wines made from this grape. (May 2007)
Wine Spectator - The Finger Lakes Region
The Wine Spectator featured the Finger Lakes Region in a full spread on Rieslings. They wrote " Line up three glasses of Riesling from three Seneca Lake wineries for a tasting and you will discover something compelling: Terroir. Each wine will show a lively balance of fruit and crispness.
"Mother Nature has given us these lakes, and there's something here that treats Riesling very well", says Fox Run Vineyards owner Scott Osborn. "Since I got here in 1993, I haven't seen a bad year for Riesling. Mother Nature is telling us 'This is what you should be planting'".

Wine Spectator - Vines in the Dead of Winter
Winter in the northern hemisphere is usually a quiet time in the vineyards. But for producers who work in some of the coolest winegrowing areas, such as the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York, winter brings a whole new set of challenges, namely, keeping a vineyard alive through sometimes harsh weather conditions.

Appellation America's Best-of-Appellation awarded Fox Run Vineyards 2007 Dry Riesling a Double Gold and gave it a perfect score. Wines & Vines - A Study in Riesling - How Three Winemakers collaborate on Tierce in the Finger Lakes
Just what is a tierce? My dictionary defines it as several things--the third of seven canonical hours; the time of day set aside for prayer, usually the third hour after sunrise; a former measure of liquid capacity, equal to a third of a pipe, or 42 gallons; and a sequence of three cards of the same suit. The Tierce of this article, however, is an ultra-premium dry Riesling, collaboratively produced in the Finger Lakes region of New York by three wineries, Anthony Road Wine Co. and Fox Run Vineyards in Penn Yan, and Red Newt Cellars Winery in Hector. This article explores how the three parts of this special Riesling are grown, vinified and then blended by the three winemakers.

NY Cork Report - Fox Run Vineyards 2008 Reserve Riesling
Even though I've never asked him directly, I know that Peter Bell, winemaker at Fox Run Vineyards, doesn't take putting the "reserve" designation on his wines lightly. How do I know? For one, he doesn't make "reserves" every year. That's smart and fair to his customers. But at the end of the day the proof is in the bottle.

Hey New Yorkers - Have you ever had to make an extra stop after the grocery store to pick up wine? Vine Sleuth - Tricia Renshaw of Fox Run Vineyards
Before we get too far into today's post I have a confession to make: I am not so good at identifying flavors in wine. I know that I like a wine or that I don't like a wine and I'm getting better at figuring out why, but, for the most part, I am awful at identifying different flavors or aromas.
There. It's out now.
Tricia Renshaw, however, does not have that challenge at all.
